We specialize in cataract screening. We do not only test visual acuity but also take visual quality into account.
We also ensure the good health of the other anatomical and physiological structures of your eyes to optimize the results of the surgery and reduce complications.
The surgical treatment aims to:
- Remove the cloudy lens
- Insert a clear artificial lens which restores clear vision at various distances
Refractive and visual outcomes are also improved, resulting in a significantly reduced or eliminated need for glasses after surgery.
The side effects of cataract surgery are mainly related to the eye drops that you will need to put in your eyes after surgery: allergies or irritation.
Eye drops, however, remain essential after each operation because they reduce the risk of inflammation and postoperative infection.
Other risks include:
- Dry eyes
- Increased astigmatism
- Intraocular lens dislocation
- Inflammation
- Sensitivity to light
- Macular edema (central retina swelling)
- Double vision or halos around bright lights
- Development of secondary cataracts
- Overestimated or underestimated vision correction
The only treatment for cataracts is surgery. This is the most performed operation in France with nearly 700,000 operations per year.
With refractive cataract surgery, instead of using a surgical blade, we use a laser to create a small opening in the front layer of the lens of the eye.
We then use the laser to break up the cloudy lens into smaller pieces.
The laser creates small incisions in the cornea allowing access to the cloudy lens inside the eye.
We then remove the pieces of lens using a tiny ultrasound suction device that we place through the incision.
Once we have completely removed the cataract, we insert an artificial lens through the tiny incision into the position where the natural lens used to be.
Because the incision is so small, it does not require any sutures.
